The IEEE

Welcome to the IEEE Virtual Museum! You might be wondering who we are and why we are here. The IEEE ("eye-triple-E") is the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a non-profit, technical professional association of more than 350,000 individual members in 150 countries.

Through its members, the IEEE is a leading authority in technical areas ranging from computer engineering, biomedical technology and telecommunications, to electric power, aerospace and consumer electronics, among others.

The IEEE produces 30% of the world’s published literature in electrical engineering, computers, and control technology, holds more than 300 major conferences annually, and has more than 800 active standards.

The IEEE Virtual Museum

The IEEE Virtual Museum is designed for students ages 10-18, educators, and the general public to enhance their understanding of the principles of electrical and information sciences and technologies within a historical context. It explores the global social impact of technology and demonstrates the relevance of engineering and engineers to society. By integrating the collective expertise of the IEEE, resources from traditional museums, and interactive virtual techniques, the IEEE Virtual Museum transcends the traditional museum experience.

If you would like more information about the IEEE Virtual Museum or have questions or comments, you can contact us at vm-feedback@ieee.org.

This help section is divided into two parts. The first part explains the organization and navigation of the site, while the second part provides technical help or help for those of you who are having difficulty seeing all that the Museum provides, such as Flash and Quicktime movies. Just select the topic in which you are interested from the list at the left to find out more.
